AI inventory management
Inventory management with MCP
Section titled “Inventory management with MCP”Tana works with AI agents that support the Model Context Protocol (MCP), such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Cursor. Once connected, you can ask things like “what’s running low?” or “add the twelve things on this receipt”, and the agent answers from — or updates — your team’s shelves.
Connect
Section titled “Connect”Add Tana to your agent as a custom connector (some agents call it an MCP server) with this address:
https://mcp.tana.appStep-by-step setup for each agent:
- Inventory management with ChatGPT
- Inventory management with Claude
- Inventory management with Cursor
- Inventory management with Gemini
- Inventory management with Antigravity
- Inventory management with other AI agents
The agent then sends you to Tana. Sign in if you aren’t already, and choose which team it may work with. A connection only ever sees the one team you pick. To use it with another team, connect again and pick that one.
It can do what your role in this team lets you do in Tana.
Select Allow, and you’re sent back to the agent.
What an agent can’t do
Section titled “What an agent can’t do”To keep your team safe, an agent connected to Tana can never:
- Invite people, change roles or remove members
- Post team messages or send notifications
- Create or delete teams
- See anyone’s email address
- Reach any team other than the one you connected
Everything it does is on the record
Section titled “Everything it does is on the record”Every change an agent makes appears in the team’s activity with its name, for example “Hayato via Claude”, so the whole team can see what changed. Before deleting or overwriting something, your agent usually asks you to confirm.
Quotas and bulk operations
Section titled “Quotas and bulk operations”Pace each connection at no more than 100 requests per minute, including up to 60 write calls such as creates, updates and deletes. Writes count toward both limits. These limits count calls, not the number of entities changed.
Bulk create, update and delete operations accept 1–100 items, storages or locations per call. A bulk operation counts as one request and one write call.
Item, storage and location lists default to 50 results per page, with a maximum of 500. Fetch subsequent pages when more results are available.
If you hit a limit, wait for the duration indicated in the response before retrying. Bulk updates and deletes can partially succeed: inspect each result and retry only failed entries.
The shared daily creation limits also apply. A bulk call is one request, but each entity created consumes the daily allowance.
Disconnect
Section titled “Disconnect”Open Settings → Connected apps in Tana and select Disconnect next to the connection. The agent loses access right away. Leaving a team, or having it deleted, also ends every connection to it.
